E-commerce platform Amazon on Sunday announced close to 20,000 seasonal jobs in its customer service department in India. The company revealed that the jobs will be available in 11 Indian cities including Hyderabad, Pune, Coimbatore, Noida, Kolkata, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Mangalore, Indore, Bhopal and Lucknow. This development comes a month after Amazon announced 50000 temporary jobs in India.
Amazon has specifically mentioned that the employees will have the option of working from home as most of the positions that are offered are a part of their Virtual Customer Service program. The positions are open to all as the minimum education qualification required is 12th standard pass and the applicants should b proficient in languages including English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu or Kannada.
A TOI report says that the jobs would pay an individual around Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 per month and the temporary positions that are created will be applicable for there to six months. Employees are required to cater to the issues of customers through various mediums including email, chat, social media, and phones.
"We are continuously evaluating hiring needs across the customer service organization in response to the growing customer demand. We estimate that customer traffic will further scale up over the next six months with the onset of Indian and global holiday seasons," Amazon India Director (Customer Service) Akshay Prabhu said in a statement.
As of now the positions offered by Amazon are temporary but the company says that some of the temporary positions will be turned into permanent positions at the end of the year after analyzing the performance of the candidates and the company’s business requirements. Earlier in this year, Amazon had announced that it plans to create 1 million new jobs in India by 2025 through investments in technology, infrastructure, and its logistics network. The announcement was made during Amazon CE0 Jeff Bezos’ India visit. Bezos had said that the company planned to invest $1 billion to "help bring 10 million traders and micro, small, and medium-sized businesses (MSMEs) across India online, enabling the US $10B in cumulative exports by 2025."
“We are investing to create a million new jobs here in India over the next five years. We’ve seen huge contributions from our employees, extraordinary creativity from the small businesses we’ve partnered with, and great enthusiasm from the customers who shop with us and we’re excited about what lies ahead," Bezos had said.
